The Caledonia Utility District is committed to serving its customers by providing an effective sanitary sewer system, high quality drinking water, and sustainable storm water management.
Sanitary Sewer -
The Caledonia Utility District provides sanitary sewer service to the Eastern and Southern halves of the Village of Caledonia, approximately 600 customers on the North side of the Village of Mount Pleasant, the entire Village of Wind Point, the Caddy Vista area and the Southern portion of Interstate 94 corridor. Overall, the Utility serves approximately 9,900 customers. The sanitary sewer system consists of 13 lift stations, 1 attenuation basin, 11.9 miles of sanitary sewer force main, 157.8 miles of gravity sanitary sewer and 68.6 miles of sanitary sewer laterals.
Sanitary sewer flow that is collected is conveyed to the Racine Wastewater Treatment Plant and the South Shore Water Reclamation Facility (MMSD). Each year the utility conveys approximately 1.42 billion gallons of sanitary sewer. Approximately 96% of the sanitary sewer flow collected is conveyed to the Racine Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Water -
The Caledonia Utility District is committed to distributing uninterrupted, safe, high quality, drinking water to its customers. The Caledonia Utility District is a wholesale customer of both the Racine Water Utility (RWU) and the Oak Creek Water Utility (OCWU). Both wholesalers have the source water of Lake Michigan. Approximately 75% of the Utility's water is purchased from the RWU and 25% is purchased from the OCWU. Overall, the utility serves approximately 7,650 customers. The Water Distribution System consists of 5 distinct pressure zones, 1,467 hydrants, 128.1 miles of water main, 54 miles of water laterals, 2 booster stations, and 3 elevated storage tanks totaling 1.6 million gallons. Each year the Utility purchases approximately 670 million gallons of water.
Storm Water Management -
The Caledonia Utility District is dedicated to provide sustainable storm water management for the Village of Caledonia. The utility reviews and approves storm water management plans, ensuring that the plans meet the Village Ordinances, on behalf of the Village Board for all developments. In addition, the utility manages the 12 public storm water management ponds, 2 storm water lift stations, and 116.9 miles of storm sewer, sump collection line, road culverts, and drainage ditches.
