Tasks:
The Building Department provides services for commercial and residential construction projects. The Building Department has a Senior Building Inspector, Building Inspector, Residential Electrical Inspector, part-time Commercial Electrical Inspector, Residential Plumbing Inspector, part-time Commercial Plumbing Inspector, and an Administrative Coordinator. The staff assists in the review and issuance of permits and all inspections. Citizens can call or stop in with questions.

New Residential Dwellings
As of 11/19/2019 the Village of Caledonia is now using the State of Wisconsin Online Building Permit System for all new home applications. Once your permit application to the State has been accepted, provide the following to Erika Waege (ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov) and Megan O'Brien (mobrien@caledonia-wi.gov).
- Complete the Caledonia Building Permit Application
- Two sets of house plans to scale (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov and mobrien@caledonia-wi.gov)
- Two energy worksheets - acquired from the heating contractor (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov and mobrien@caledonia-wi.gov)
- Two scaled copies of a parcel survey. Surveys must include setbacks, elevations, and drainage plan. (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov and mobrien@caledonia-wi.gov)
- Copy of Port-a-Potty contract
- Specifications for a pre-fabricated fireplace, if applicable.
- If a mound system is needed, a sanitary permit from Racine County Planning & Development is required.
- Completed Site Grading Certificate of Compliance form needed.
- Completed Erosion Control Maintenance Agreement form needed.
- Completed Footing and Culvert Certification form needed.
- Completed Land Disturbance Permit Application form needed.

Commercial building requirements
- Completed Village of Caledonia Building Permit Application.
- Completed Commercial Plumbing Permit.
- Completed Electrical Permit.
- Two sets of complete state approved plans (to scale) showing electrical, plumbing, heating & air conditioning, and structural plans (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov).
- Two Professional Engineer Stamped, Village Approved Storm Water Management Plan (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov).
- Two Professional Engineer Stamped, Village Approved Site Grading and Drainage Plan (submit PDF to ewaege@caledonia-wi.gov).
- Completed Land Disturbance Permit.
State of Wisconsin DSPS
Plan review is required for commercial, industrial, and other public buildings 25,000 cubic feet or larger. Review is also needed for any size school, high-hazard occupancy, and three-unit or larger residential building. Under Wisconsin Statute §101.12, the following plan reviews are required for public buildings and places of employment [Wis. Stat. §101.12 and 145.03(5)]:
- Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, fire alarm, fire detection, and fire suppression systems.
- Industrial exhaust systems.
- Elevators, escalators, lifts, and power dumbwaiters.
- Stadiums, grandstands, and bleachers.
- Amusement and thrill ride equipment.
- Plumbing installations.
