The Planning & Zoning Department is responsible for assisting the leaders and citizens of Caledonia in defining and achieving their long-term vision for the community and its neighborhoods through the implementation of sound land use planning. The Department serves as the focal point for all new development proposed in the Village and is often the first contact for landowners, realtors, and developers. The Department was created in May 2019 and is transitioning planning and zoning services and zoning code enforcement from Racine County to Caledonia.

The Planning & Zoning Department oversees all community planning and zoning activities of the Village. Department staff facilitate development proposals through the review process and coordinate with other Village departments whose service delivery to the public may be affected by such development. Services include the day-to-day administration of the Village Zoning Code and the implementation of the 2035 Comprehensive Plan (including updates); review of site plans, subdivisions, and condo plats; rezoning, conditional uses, temporary uses, planned unit developments, variance requests, and zoning compliance; providing guidance to property owners on zoning and development issues; and researching answers to planning, zoning, and development questions posed by the public.
