The Board of Review is a quasi-judicial (court-like) body empowered with three primary duties:
- Can adjust assessments when they have been proven incorrect by sworn oral testimony.
- Can correct errors or omissions in the descriptions or computations found on the assessment role.
- Can check the assessment roll for omitted property and double assessments.
The Board of Review is to hear sworn, oral testimony about the assessed values and based solely on that testimony to decide whether an individual has proven the assessment to be incorrect. The Board of Review meets once a year, generally in August, during the day. The duration is based upon the amount of appropriately filed review applications. Members are required to attend a Board of Review training session.
